Ehab Al –Ghasin, a spokesperson for the Gaza interior ministry said on Monday that“.The Hillis clan has become a private militia, members of the clan has attacked, abducted and even killed people” – continuing “ we must put an end to the attacks on innocent citizens".
The Hamas led Gaza authority claimed on Monday, that its police force has seized a stockpile of weaponry.Grenade launchers, mortars and other weaponry were seized from the Hilles clan, allied with the Fatah movement,.the weaponry was found on Saturday in the Shuaiyeh neighborhood in Gaza City.
Gaza police force gave ultimatum to members of the Hilles stronghold,but the Hillis family refused to give them self in. Heavy fire from rifles and rockets were launched towards the police force. The clashes which erupted between the Gaza police force and members of the Hillis clan killed 11 people and wounded more then 20.
The Hillis clan were subjected to investigations in regards of involvement in the terror attack on a Gaza resort parking-lot used by the Gaza police force. The explosive devises which killed 6 Gaza residents, 5 Ezz al - Din Al - Qassam fighters and a 4-year old girl, the blast also wounded many others.
After the attack, a manhunt after the perpetrators took place, and some hundred Fatah affiliated supporters, including dozens of members of the Hilles clan were rounded up, and arrested for interrogations. Since the bomb attack in Gaza City,the Fatah PA security forces in the West Bank has intensified its one year old ongoing arrest campaigns on its political opponents, Hamas members, legislators and scholars.
The events on Saturday was an unanticipated setback for Mahmoud Abbas, the Fatah leader.One of Fatah's heavy armed bastions in Gaza has fallen, highlighting who is in power of Gaza strip.Left in Gaza is only a small pocket of Fatah supporters, and these individuals are under close surveillance.
Fatah has no longer offices or media outlets in Gaza, and has now also lost its armed militia there. More than 100 member of the Hillis clan had been detained, and a large stockpile of weaponry has been seized, including mortars rocket-propelled grenade launchers, land mines and assault rifles.
"We do believe this was the last Fatah stronghold in Gaza," a spokesman for the Gaza police force said today - this stronghold had to be uprooted."The Hilles clan, one of the largest in the Palestinian territories has thousands of members, more then 4,000 lived in the Shujaiyeh area, close to Ihe Israelis heavily guarded border with Gaza.
When the Gaza police force took control of the Shuaiyeh neighborhood, more than 100 members of the Hillis clan tried to escape, towards Israeli positions on Saturday afternoon,the Israelis opened the borders for the Fatah fugitives.,
More than 30 members of the Hillis clan,were sent back to Gaza from the West Bank on Sunday. after that Mahmoud Abbas ruled out the plan of letting the Fatah fugitives settle on the West Bank.On Sunday, he had a change of mindset, he said that a Fatah pretense in Gaza is needed and that Fatah would not abandon the territory to Hamas.
When Fatah fugitives returned to Gaza, some of them were arrested.At the end, 92 members of the Hillis clan, including the 12 who waited at the border, were taken to the West Bank town of Jericho. Meanwhile some sixty others voluntarily returned back to Gaza.Some remained in Israeli hospitals,while some others were kept in Israeli custody.
Thiyab Al Ali, AKA, "Abu Al-Fatah", leader of the PA Fatah, Security Services in the West Bank, called on Tuesday for a total ban on carrying arms, except for the (PA) , Fatah, security forces as a measure to end "security chaos" on the West Bank..
